You make a great point there – although you're connected to those people anyway, readers of that post may not have been, but now you've introduced them to some great people. I think that's where the strength of the argument for a single hub comes through.

I know when you posted about people who inspire you and encouraged others to write about people who inspire them, I just simply tweeted about it. You after encouraged me to write something on your post and a good amount of people thanked me for the connection and the kind words.

I don't know if I can really put in an educated opinion here as I am new to SM, but I can definitely see where both sides are coming from and hope that the conversations will continue to be through provoking on blogs and not just on tweets (or vice versa).

I don't disagree with the fact that Twitter is helping to raise a blog's profile, but I do believe it can be at the expense of comments there.

There's nothing wrong per se with discussing away from the source, but I just feel it'd be cooler for everyone to see all facets of the conversation about a post, as opposed to fractured all over the place, either on Twitter, Friendfeed, forums, Facebook, Reddit or anywhere else.

But, her point is well received. And she's right, it's not about the numbers. Not in this specific instance. It's much more about quality of conversation.

I have to say that back in March when I first started tweeting, I was all about numbers. I thought, “What am I doing wrong? I want more followers”. But I quickly learned that thinking that way, I was doing myself a disservice and my readers/followers. I think no matter what the old saying that “quality, not quantity” still holds true.
