The list of public figures from all political parties that have conducted affairs is a long one, sadly. But you're right; we're liable to hold it against someone more if they've devoted their lives to Family Values.

Letterman is fine; he never was the “Family Values” type. Yes, he probably cheated on his girlfriend now wife. But at least he does go around claiming he is Mr. “Family Values” like some of our politicians (can you just see the grin on all “Fake News” reporters/commentators and Palin’s fringe). This has been a tough summer, for Dave, for our economy but at least he did not end up on the “Republican 2009 Summer of Love” list: Assemblyman, Michael D. Duvall (CA), Senator John Ensign (NV), Senator Paul Stanley (TN), Governor Mark Stanford (SC), Board of Ed Chair, and Kristin Maguire AKA Bridget Keeney (SC).

Not a problem, Ari. I would have missed the news too if it weren't for Twitter.

No doubt that potential is a very serious thing. But as I said, until women come forward with complaints of sexual harassment, what can we do?

Believe me, I have as much sympathy for victims of outdated office sexual politics as the next feminist; and because of my feminist leanings, not despite them, I will have to think that these affairs were consensual until evidence to the contrary appears.

The difference between David Letterman and Bill Clinton, man vs man, is one told the public on national TV after a confession to a judge and jury; and the other told the public on national TV before such jurisprudence.

Also, keep in mind politics and religion, like or hate the separation of church and state, is very much not separated from each other as lobby groups are strong and questions on faith are part of the electoral experience. Who cares about faith and entertainment?

Thanks for the blog post title by the way. I don't watch much late-night TV and apparently missed the news about this until you.

Seems to me affairs aren't the issue. It's the potential sexual harrassment of Letterman's staff. See here: http://shakespearessister.blogspot.com/2009/10/...
