Your Copy Sucks: Affect/Effect
CT Michaels asked for a post on when to use affect and effect. So here it is, the shortest post of all time.
Affect is a verb. Effect is a noun.
I remember it by saying an affect is an action.
Exception: when you “effect change,” then you can use effect as a verb. And when you use “an affect,” meaning you’re using a certain trait (as in acting), then you can use affect as a noun. But those instances are so rare you may as well not even bother.
That’s it. Bookmark and go on with your lives.
