As you create a Social Media Crisis Plan, it’s a good idea to look at your PR crisis communication plan and develop a similar plan for social media outlets. Don’t wait until a crisis happens in the social media space to create a plan for dealing with it — when you least expect it, it will happen. Continue reading

Seek or Shout Content Platform
Cision’s Seek or Shout, billed as a “new community for anyone who creates or promotes content” and a place to collaborate “away from the noise of big social networks” is on my radar screen.
According to the propaganda I’ve seen (I’m in advertising, it’s all propaganda, people) you can use the platform to search industry news, look for editorial opportunities, ask the community for help, seek out interviews, products to review or docs for research, etc. Continue reading
The Summer Week That Was May 28-June 1

Need Blogger Outreach? A Case Study in How NOT to Do It
Blogger outreach is an important component of both marketing and PR strategies. And there’s a right way to do it, and some very wrong ways. More on that in a minute.
Measuring influence (or trying to) is another key component of digital strategy, for both brands and agencies, not to mention a multimillion dollar business. There are many players in the market and, in our opinion, none of them have got this influence measurement thing completely figured out yet. And they won’t until they factor sentiment analysis into the equation. Continue reading
Rich Media the Key to Rocking the New Facebook Timeline
Catching up on reading last night, I saw this article in MarketingLand about a study done on the new Facebook timeline. The use of rich media in Facebook content strategy is paying off – even at the early stages.
While admittedly, a study that involves only 15 participants immediately invites skepticism, nonetheless, the results of the SimplyMeasured early adopter study weren’t surprising. Facebook engagement per post after integration of Timeline for the brands in the study was up on average 46%. Continue reading
How to Get a Job in PR: Understand the Power of Connectivity
I gave a presentation called Connectivity: Empowering You, Empowering Your Career a few weeks ago to the PRSSA organization at the University of Kansas. My advice: getting a job in PR is all about understanding the power of connectivity, for sure. But it’s also about understanding marketing and the role of the Internet in business today.
Since many of the readers here are at the early stages in their careers and/or looking for jobs, either in the Public Relations field, in Marketing or as Social Media Community Managers, I thought the things shared to the PRSSA group might be interesting. Continue reading
